June Show Recommendations
June 1, 2026
Welcome to our monthly show recommendations brought to you by Valerie Lopez and Sam Peirce.
Have a show you want to recommend? Send us a message!
Symply Courtney is producing a trio of comedy shows in honor of Juneteenth:
- A Very Juneteenth Comedy Jam at The Velveeta Room with 8pm and 10pm show times
- Along for the Vibes, Symply's signature musical comedy variety show, at ColdTowne Theater also at 8pm.
Symply's objective was simple: "I wanted to give Black and Brown comics a place to perform" and he'll manage to get nearly two dozen Black and Brown comics in front of the great audiences of The Velveeta Room and ColdTowne Theater. For his part, we're not sure how Symply will be in two places at once, but we do know that anytime he produces something new, it's always a good time. And what a great way to honor Juneteenth!
Friday, June 19, 8:00pm and 10:00pm, The Velveeta Room: Tickets
Friday, June 19, 8:00pm, ColdTowne Theater: Tickets

Who will 2025 FPIA Winner JJ Curry pass the crown to this year? We don't know, but maybe the predictive markets have an angle. We're one of the great comedy cities, so no matter who takes away the crown, it's sure to be a great ride.
FPIA is an endurance sport with wins, losses, stumbles, and lots and lots of laughter. Lace up and get ready! We'll be tracking every round on our FPIA page and reporting results on our Instagram.
Starts Tuesday June 2 and runs through the Finals in late September, check times at Cap City Comedy Club: Tickets

The Creek and the Cave is bringing a couple of heavy hitters to Austin in June. Kate Berlant's shows last year sold out before we could snag one, so we made sure to secure our tickets early. She's absurd, she's quirky, and she is not to be missed.
Ray Lau wasn't a household name until a certain Netflix show brought him to millions of audiences via Kevin Hart's Funny AF. No matter what you think of the show's producer, there were lots of talented comics featured (Austin's Ron Taylor emerged victorious) and Ray is building his own audiences with his unusual style.
Kate Berlant - Friday and Saturday, June 12 and 13, 7:00pm and 9:00pm
Ray Lau - Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20, 7:00pm and 9:00pm

I'm a fan of museums and I'm a fan of improv, so this show is a delightful combo of creative expression. Featuring some of the top improvisers in Austin and with music and art decorating the stage, this is sure to be an artful experience to watch.
Saturdays through July 11, 7:00pm, ColdTowne Theater: Tickets

Before you look down your nose at me, know that I'm a long-time fine of the NPR quiz, variety, entertainment show. Such a die-hard that when I lived in Chicago, I would go see the live show (in the Carl Kasell days, no less). The show features a lot of comedy heavy hitters and a crack writing staff filled with some of your favorite comics. So, go ahead and grab your tote bag and a ticket.
Thursday June 4, 7:30pm, Bass Concert Hall: Tickets

Nate Bargatze is everyone's favorite clean comic, but we remember when he used to do small rooms, including the old Cap City Comedy Club on 183. You may not be able to see him up close like the old days of Austin comedy, but you can see him take over the Moody Center with those "Big Dumb Eyes", which is also the name of his current tour.
Saturday June 20, 3:00pm and 7:00pm, Moody Center: Tickets

In their own words, L.J. Manley, Jer Moran, and Lisa Sperry are keeping Austin queer with Broadgay: The Musical, an evening of uncut queer and neurodivergent musical comedy. In my words, it's fitting to celebrate Pride month with a celebration of music, comedy, and mischief. Moran and Sperry are frequent collaborators who know how to entertain audiences - check out Sam's review of last year's Theater Punk! at Fallout Theater if you need convincing.
Saturday, June 20, 7:00pm at Fallout Theater: Tickets
