Guz Buzz was born and raised in El Paso, but spent ten years living in Austin while attending UT Austin for a film degree. During that time, he became very involved in the Austin comedy scene and loved everything it had to offer. As a student of the Austin scene, he brought what he learned back home and began contributing his vision to the El Paso comedy scene.
Much in the same way the Austin comedy scene has exploded over the last 4 years, so too has the El Paso comedy scene. New clubs, new shows, new energy began to reshape comedy in Texas’ far west border town. El Paso is perfectly primed to bring big name comics to the city because of its prime location as a stop between New Orleans, Austin, or Houston to Albuquerque, Phoenix, Vegas, and Los Angeles.
These ingredients created the right environment for Buzz to launch the first Chuco Town Comedy Festival this coming weekend. With headliners Andrew Youngblood, Enrique Chacon, and Irma Ruiz serving as the anchors, the rest of the festival features over 50 comics performing Roast Battles, Karaōke, magic, and over 30 other shows to take in.
