Izzy Burger — North Carolina improv rebel, puppet surgeon, and self-proclaimed old lady” of Austin comedy — spills on why divorce is the ultimate punchline factory, how hosting Ladies Night means roasting a diversity hire” dude weekly, and why Bradley Cooper deserves cosmic side-eye. Between tales of chain-smoking with puppet legends and accidentally dating her 20-something co-producer, she reveals why Austin’s comedy scene is a jello mold of chaos… and why she’s its wobbly, unapologetic center.

When words aren't quite enough

When asked to describe her "past" in one word, Izzy Burger opted for a noise instead—a fitting choice for a comedian who thrives on unpredictability. Valerie rolls with it, sparking a moment of absurdity that set the tone for the interview. Burger's refusal to conform to expectations (even grammatical ones) underscores her signature blend of chaos and charm.

I could expand on the noises if you just want to go through… it’s hard.

Being a female comedian in the Austin scene

Burger didn’t set out to run an all-female comedy show, but after a venue switch to Austin’s Velveeta Room, Ladies Night became her mission. Her dry humor shines as she describes booking "the best chicks I can find" and a token "diversity hire" male comic. The show, she jokes, is where women can be "ugly" (i.e., authentically angry) without Southern-belle expectations—and still get laughs.

It’s real hard here for a girl

On finding (a) god in her midst

Burger's recounting of barking Duncan Trussell into a comedy show—then realizing mid-pitch who he was—became a spiritual experience. “A ray of sunshine shone on him as he walked away,” she deadpanned, contrasting it with Bradley Cooper’s “straight fingers” dismissal. Her celebrity encounters, it seems, are ultimately a mix of divine intervention and Hollywood snubs.

I think he might actually be Jesus Christ. I think he might be the incarnation.

Care and Feeding of a Burger

Wrapping the interview, Izzy urged listeners to rescue her if spotted “wandering” Sixth Street—a nod to her post-show exhaustion and Austin’s relentless comedy grind. It’s a hilarious, humblebrag admission: even a self-proclaimed “psychopath” onstage needs a suburban pot roast sometimes.

Take me home. If I look lost… just give me some food.
