Bak is one of our favorite comedy nerdz (nod to his latest show production) and he’s back as one of our annual recurring guests to review the year that was and talk about our hopes and dreams for 2025. A lot has changed since our last conversation a year ago. Some expected, some completely unexpected. We get into it all as we recap 2024 and talk about what looms in 2025. Happy New Year!

Comedy Wham Recaps 2024
  • Valerie continued to publish articles, including pieces for The Austin Chronicle and her biggest piece yet about comedy in Texas for thebarbedwire.com. If you haven't read them, you can head to our Columns section to get caught up.
  • We did a our third live podcast with Lysistrata Comedy Festival.
  • And after the wild guest interview with Ellis Aych, we launched the CCPP Podcast with Ellis - a short 10-part comedy class for new comics where Ellis and I combined forces as comic and comedy fan to share some lessons.
  • Valerie took on some firsts this year - taking improv classes, hosting and producing a pair of New Year's Eve shows at ColdTowne Theater, and getting invited to judge FPIA for the first time.
For the first time ever, I was invited to judge a round (of Cap City Comedy Club’s Funniest Person in Austin contest)…It was so nerve wracking.

Bak Recaps 2024

Bak achieved great successes with his Record Play Live shows which combine music trivia with comedy. He also leaned into doing more standup comedy including the discovery that venues outside of Austin are a whole lot of fun. He's getting into more show production with the added launch of Comedy Nerz which combines comedy trivia with standup. And he once again attended Skankfest for his annual trek to the growing comedy festival.

This (hosting) is another thing I want to add, you know, to my palette.

Comedy Wham Looks Ahead into 2025

The website will get a refreshing new look with new features being launched. They're currently in the testing stages and we're excited to reveal everything soon. We're also looking into holding a Comedy Wham fundraiser to help newer comics take advantage of classes at theaters or attend comedy festivals (it's like going to a professional work conference, except you get to laugh). Valerie will continue to cover Moontower Comedy Festival and is making plans to attend Skankfest in New Orleans. Of course the podcast will continue its journey to talking to comics from across Austin and the country as we make our climb toward 400 episodes. We're hoping for new articles getting published in 2025, too.

Looking into doing a fundraiser to maybe do basically scholarships to help pay for somebody who wants to take a stand up class or an improv class that, you know, the theaters, maybe a badge to a festival so that they can basically attend continuing education.

Bak Looks Ahead into 2025

Bak wants to keep doing more of the same - producing shows, hosting, and returning to Skankfest 2024 (he'll be Valerie's sherpa no doubt). And he's going to lean in to his latest passion project - Instagram stories where he observes everything around him and documents the funniest parts. Be sure to give him a follow.

Last time I said I didn’t know what the next iteration of the podcast is gonna be, I still don’t freaking know, I might end up just doing it by myself.
