Prepare yourself for laughter and inspiration as Garrett Rojas takes us on a whirlwind tour through his creative journey — from family jam sessions to improv spotlights and sketch comedy shenanigans. With infectious energy and plenty of heart, Garrett reminds us that comedy (and life) is all about connecting, collaborating, and having a whole lot of fun (including fart jokes) along the way.

Roots, Family, and Finding the Stage

Garrett Rojas’s creativity is practically inherited. Growing up surrounded by music and comedy—his dad was a stand-up comic, his family tree stocked with musicians—he had permission to explore his talents from day one. This foundation fuels his current enthusiasm for performing. "I'm very fortunate to have been surrounded by that kind of environment growing up," Garrett tells us.

“My parents never told me no or to turn down the amp", he remembers, "I would go into my parents’ room and… just start doing an improvised stand up routine”. Garrett’s story shines with gratitude for his upbringing. After a decade of talking with comedians of all backgrounds, I can say that Garrett's story is rare—most encounter family resistance for years. The fact that Garrett's family encouraged him from the start was transformative: being creative wasn’t just tolerated—it was actively supported.

Creativity just courses through your veins like you’ve got this, you know, family heritage that embraces and does create.

The Journey from Music to Film Set (and Beyond)

Garrett’s path led from classically trained guitarist to actor to improv performer. The shift came down to connection. It's no exception for Garrett: “I was like, I’m sitting all day. I want to connect with people. I want to be creative in other ways… you need connection."

He found that connection in spades at ColdTowne Theater, where early improv performances felt like playing basketball: “That was like, the first experience of being like, 'Oh, wow, we're in the major leagues now, right?'” ColdTowne has given Garrett community, mentorship, and mutual respect—he's now a regular performer, improviser, and teacher there.

That’s (ColdTowne Theater) where I got hooked.

Doing it All

These days, Garrett juggles improv (with Temptress and the all-Latin Misterios), sketch (with Pay Pigs Comedy and Lawn Party), acting ambitions (he's done commercials for everyone's favorite—Cane's), and teaching. His approach to instruction reflects his strong collaborative spirit: “As a teacher… all I'm trying to do is just relay [what I’ve experienced] to you. If it helps you, then that’s great. If not, let’s work together."

And when he's not teaching, improvising, acting, or making music? He's not above enjoying a good fart joke. Which is exactly why Garrett is so much fun to watch on stage. For all his creative expertise, he'll still spring something on you that takes you by surprise. Lucky for us, he's on stage a lot.

I love talking shop and…,you know, we’re all working towards the same goal…I’m always here to support, whatever it is.
