2026 Moontower Comedy Festival Series
The 2026 Moontower Comedy Festival is blessing us with 2 weeks of comedy, live podcasts, and after parties. We’re bringing you our favorite conversations leading up to and during this year’s festival. Enjoy!
Fast Ronald has lived a lot of lives — culinary school, the LA comedy grind, the cannabis industry, and a critically important pandemic pivot — and somehow turned all of it into a comedy style that’s deliberate, deadpan, and impossible to look away from. His debut special Flex Your Head is on YouTube right now, and his selection for his 2026 Moontower debut came about in the most Fast Ronald way possible: he almost didn’t show up to the 2025 Cap City Comedy Club Funniest Person in Austin contest, walked in at the last second, and still got the call two weeks later. Come for the storytelling, stay for the cookies — yes, he makes them himself.
Fast Ronald isn't just a comedian — he's a culinary school grad, a tattoo enthusiast, a former cannabis industry worker, and a guy who once did seven open mics in a single night in LA. All of that life experience gets folded into a comedy style that's deliberately slow, deeply personal, and built on long-form storytelling with punchlines that sneak up on you.
He started comedy in 2010 after a friend dragged him to an open mic at Cherrywood, and from there, he was hooked. But it was Los Angeles that really pushed him — walking into rooms full of professional writers and working comedians at every open mic has a way of raising the bar fast.
For years, Fast Ronald was writing jokes the way everyone around him was writing jokes — setup, punchline, setup, punchline — and it never quite fit. To callback to his culinary chops, he knew he was missing the one ingredient that would turn a recipe into culinary magic. It was confounding and frustrating. He admits, "There was one point I was probably going to stop doing stand up, because I couldn't figure out how to make the jokes the way I wanted to make them," When he found his magic ingredient, it was cathartic: "it was interesting when it finally clicked — there's no reason to go against what my natural style is."
During the pandemic, with no open mics and nowhere to go, he scrapped most of his material and spent serious time studying storytelling. That's when things finally clicked. His style now is deadpan, deliberate, and comfortable sitting in silence — and he credits a Fluffy interview of all things for helping him realize that silence on stage isn't a bad sign. After watching Fast Ronald, either live or with his standout special, you definitely feel like you've gotten to know him.
Fast Ronald's debut special Flex Your Head — filmed at The Parish in Austin — is out now on YouTube, and his 2026 Moontower debut feels like a long time coming. He almost didn't even enter the Funniest Person in Austin contest that put him on the radar, nearly talked himself out of going the night of, and arrived just in time to get through the door. Two weeks after not advancing, Moontower's Colleen McGarr, called him while he was driving to work. The rest, as they say, is festival history.
When I first saw Fast Ronald, it was at Sure Thing's #513 and he brought a plateful of 100% certified homemade cookies. This is part of Fast Ronald's multi-sensory game plan. He's already thinking about his next special, which he plans to make about cooking. He's already testing the bit. Based on my experience, not only will you love the cookies, but Fast Ronald's comedy is something special, unique, and unforgettable. Moontower will be a great moment in time for him and for audiences alike.
