In what has become one of our favorite annual traditions, Bak returns for a year-end review of 2025 and to discuss goals for 2026. We hit some of our 2025 goals and missed others, which is pretty symbolic of life. Happy New Year!

Comedy Wham Recaps 2025
  • Valerie published articles for a new publication for her, the San Antonio Current. Writing mostly calendar blurbs promoting individual comics, she also wrote a feature piece about the new Riot Riverwalk club in downtown San Antonio. If you haven't read it, you can head to our Columns section to get caught up.
  • We launched a new monthly show recommendations article co-written with Sam Peirce, which has been well-received.
  • The Canyon Grille Comedy Show ended in April.
  • The podcast won a 2025 ColdTony Award for Best Podcast.
  • Valerie recorded 29 podcast episodes - less than she wanted, but necessary after losing her mom and needing some recovery time. Highlights include finally recording with Liz Splatt (FPIA winner 2024) followed soon after by JJ Curry one week before his FPIA 2025 win.
  • Valerie graduated from ColdTowne's improv program, launched ImproVintage (an improv format based on the audience bringing nostalgic items for an on-stage interview followed by a cast of players performing scenes based on the interview). She was invited to judge FPIA again and participated in the Year in Review show at Cap City Comedy Club for the first time.
  • Valerie finally went to the Comedy Mothership (and loved the experience).
I finally got her (Liz Splatt) and it was so cool. And JJ is funny, oh my god.

Bak Recaps 2025

Bak continued to build Record Play Live shows which combine music trivia with comedy. He's expanded its reach to private gigs and SXSW. He pulled back from Comedy Nerdz (his interactive comedy and trivia show) due to the growth of Record Play Live. He returned to Skankfest for his annual trek, this time in New Orleans, rating it the best iteration yet of the festival. He continued to berate Valerie for not yet attending.

Getting ready for some gigs in the spring, for South by Southwest and all that. So this is great.

Comedy Wham Looks Ahead into 2026
  • As the podcast celebrates its 10th year, it is expected to reach the 400th episode in the second half of 2026.
  • We expect to continue expanding our coverage of the San Antonio comedy scene by writing for the San Antonio Current.
  • We'll keep promoting shows every month with our monthly show recommendations based on what Sam Peirce and I see happening, but feel free to contact us to get your show considered.
  • We're also digging into more show reviews, so if you have a show you want featured, contact us.
  • The website redesign is still in motion, but moving slow as molasses.
  • Valerie will continue to cover Moontower Comedy Festival and MAYBE this is the year she gets to Skankfest.
  • She'll certainly keep doing improv with her ImproVintage show with an eye toward performing in San Antonio.
  • Maybe Valerie will learn to slow down this year.
I plan to go back to San Antonio more often because they also have an improv scene, and I want to be able to take my group down there. And I just, you know, I want to know this scene.

Bak Looks Ahead into 2026
  • Bak wants to keep growing Record Play Live (RPL) with more corporate gigs and he'll be doing the show for SXSW and he'd like to involve more comedians in the production of RPL.
  • He wants to perform more standup in San Antonio.
  • He will return to Skankfest 2026
I want to figure out a way to throw in comedy into Record Play (Live).
