When you think comedy couples, you think Desi and Luci, or Burns and Allen, but we’re here to tell you that you should add Nick and Sarah to your list. I didn’t know them either until Ruby Willmann, the Executive Producer of the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival suggested I talk to them ahead of the festival. After watching video after video of their collaborations, we think you need to make sure that you keep an eye out for Nick Afka Thomas and Sarah Ann Masse, who collaborate under the nom de plume We Are Thomasse.

The couple met in New York. Masse was running a production company and a friend introduced her to Thomas. (The friend failed to mention that Thomas was an Oxford-trained actor.) The two immediately became fast friends. Collaborations on sketches and characters seemed to happen readily. This, despite the fact that British and American humor (or should we say humour) differ, and the fact than an ocean separated them after Thomas returned home.

The pair eventually realized that, not only had they fallen in love with each other, but loved collaborating and performing sketch and improv together in New York. In no time, We Are Thomasse was born. After finding a home for their sketch shows at iO West in Los Angeles, the couple decided that they should head west to LA.

Their move has allowed them to produce not only more sketches, but, starting about 2 years ago, releasing a new web video every 2 weeks. With their high production values, acerbic wit, and unexpected collaborations (Jason Mraz anyone?), these videos have garnered over 10 million views between Youtube, Facebook and Funny or Die. (And Masse, for one, hopes that by the time you read this the number will be 11, or even 20 million).

Their sketch shows are high energy, fast-moving adventures, and we’re lucky we get to see them perform twice during the 2017 Out of Bounds Comedy Festival. They assure us each performance will be largely made up of different sketches, so you’d best make plans to attend both. And don’t forget to wish Masse an early birthday.

They regularly perform at Second City Hollywood and you can catch them at these Out of Bounds Comedy Festival for these shows:
